Every day, thousands of babies are born prematurely and spend their first days, weeks, or months within a neonatal unit. Although many babies are able to go home with their parents, some babies gain their angel wings like our son, Camden. In both situations, parents are in great need of strength and support.
Providing comfort and a cozy blanket to sick babies is the mission of Camden’s Comfort Project. Neonatal intensive care units (NICUs) accept donated baby blankets and the comfort they provide to babies and their families is priceless.

The blankets are offered as a gift of comfort to the families of sick and premature babies. They are often placed in the baby’s crib (this is called an “isolette” in the NICU), which makes the sterile hospital environment feel more like a nursery. The blankets also provide comfort for parents when holding their newborns or when taking baby’s first photos. Also, NICU clinicians use them to cover the isolettes to provide a cozy environment and some shade for nap time.
Parents who are bringing their babies home can chose to take the blankets home with them as a gift or they can donate them back to the NICU to be washed and reused.
Bereaved parents often don’t have time to go home to get a special blanket when they’re saying goodbye to their son or daughter. Having a donated blanket at the hospital can mean so much in the moment and can provide some comfort after their baby has passed.
